RiverCourt Assisted and Senior Living Residences Helps Frail Elders During Power Outage.

The snow came, and hit hard before we’d even seen Halloween! Here at RiverCourt Residences in Groton Massachusetts, we lost our power along with most of the surrounding towns including Townsend, Pepperell, Ayer, Westford and particularly hard hit Lunenburg. At the Eagle House, Lunenburg’s Senior Center, they set up a shelter for displaced seniors providing heat, electricity, water and cots. However, Doreen Noble, Director of the Lunenburg Council on Aging, faced a few challenges. “We had frail elders who were unable to tolerate the shelter environment”, said Doreen in a recent interview. She went on to say that “one call to RiverCourt Residences in neighboring Groton was all it took to get the help we needed. They graciously took in our most vulnerable clients. When we needed them most, RiverCourt was there with open arms.”

One such family was Dr. Felix Heimberg, his wife Adeline and son Jonathan. They came and spent 3 nights in a furnished RiverCourt apartment, where they had benefit of our excellent nurse and caregiver staff, as well as a handicap accessible facility and three full meals per day. RiverCourt Residences’ independent living, assisted living and memory care residents were virtually unaffected with the power outage as our generator system provided for all these comforts. According to Dr. Heimberg and his family, “We were very grateful to find such a caring, warm and hospitable home during the storm.” And we at RiverCourt were happy to welcome our “powerless” neighbors to join us for a few days!
