Resident Profile: Beth and Bob Shaw

Beth and Bob ShawBeth and Bob Shaw’s love story is like any other, but just as
unique at the same time. Their first meeting was when they were
set up on a blind date at a drive in at Malden by Beth’s roommate
at the time. Bob’s first impression of Beth was that she was
attractive, intelligent, and nice. After the first date, Beth and Bob
spent the next year and a half to two years dating and spending
time together doing as many fun things as possibly they could.
Roommate reunions, going to George, picnics in the park, and
going to the Wang theater together were just some of the activities
that were mentioned.

Then in the summer of 1966, Bob tried to approach Beth’s father 2 times, and eventually succeeded in asking for Beth’s hand during a lunch meeting in Boston. Beth’s father gave a resounding yes and it was set, Bob would propose. Beth of course said yes, and the wedding date was set. The wedding was wonderful and lit up a huge smile on Bob’s face when he was talking about it. Friends, family, college roommates were all there to witness it, with the reception following in Beth’s parents back yard.

Beth and Bob went on to have three children who went on to have 4 children of their own. Bob stated that having three kids who were very smart and attentive in all schooling’s was one of his biggest accomplishments. They lived in Westford for 37 years where their children all went through their school careers and eventually moved to Groton for the next 11 years.

Some of their favorite memories include trips to Alaska and other places all over the globe, but their favorite trip was when they went to Africa to see the Total Eclipse of the Sun together. Beth was very successful in her career working at a Nursing school as well as being President of the League of Women Voters. Their favorite hobby together was that they loved hosting dinner parties in both Westford and Groton. After 11 years in Groton, they both moved into RiverCourt Residences where they both reside to this day.
